I remember when I sight read this piece, I thought: hey, that wasn’t so bad, should be a piece of cake. But when I was like 80% done, I did a quick speed check to find out holy crap, this is supposed to be that fast (200bpm)?! For the most part, muscle memory took care of the speed increase. The difficulty did go up for the section on 6th’s. Since these are on triplet time (even faster), keeping the clarity became a challenge. In order to push for this, I pretty much practiced at max tempo. The final product ended up closer to 207bpm.
As with all of my performances, I have my own interpretation, so the tempo, dynamics, etc may feel quite different from the original recording. Simply put, I play the way I like it.
