Merry Go-Round of Life piano arr. Animenz ~ Howl’s Moving Castle

Merry Go-Round of Life, from Howl’s Moving Castle, music by Joe Hisaishi, piano arranged by Animenz, played by Richard Yang on Yamaha N1X with Garritan CFX VST.

“Magical” would be the best word to describe this wonderful piece from Howl’s Moving Castle. Although I can see why this didn’t make it to Animenz’s top 10 most difficult list, I can understand that this piece would be very difficult for most. The tremolo after the beginning for example, takes a lot of stamina to get through (especially difficult for me due to previous arm injury). Then we have the high-speed jumps in the finale and lots of high-risk moves in between. Recording this piece error-free, for me anyway, seemed like an impossibility. So I decided to have some fun another way by cranking the speed way up in the finale to see how fast I could play this. I know it’s not perfect, but I can’t imagine anyone going faster than that.

0:00 Introduction
0:50 Variation 1 “Tempo di valse”
2:09 Intermezzo
2:32 Variation 2 “Scherzo”
3:16 Variation 3 “Dolcissimo”
4:19 Finale

As with all of my performances, I have my own interpretation, so the tempo, dynamics, etc may feel quite different from the original recording. Simply put, I play the way I like it.
