Heaven’s Feel Medley, from Fate/Stay Night, music by Yuki Kajiura, piano arranged by Animenz, played by Richard Yang on Yamaha N1X with Garritan CFX VST.
Just some random day browsing through YouTube, I heard the melody in 7:53; I had to learn the piece right away. This is got to be one of the most beautiful chorus that I’ve played in a while. Part 1 and 3 are generally fairly simple. Part 2 is the difficult one with 3:38 being the most difficult section where I had to resort to some pretty uncomfortable hand position to get through. 3:55, the notes look reasonable, but it took me a while to understand the required touch, very confusing. With long pieces like this, I really don’t have the patience to just keep recording. So there are still quite a few stupid non-technical mistakes unfortunately.
About that most difficult part, as a side note, watching Animenz’s performance, I don’t know how he did it with an acoustic grand, but he definitely edited his video. On his performance, at 4:01 for example, he doesn’t consistently hit the C, yet the C consistently produces sound! I was hoping to study how he releases tension. I ended up having to figure it out on my own. You’ll notice that I picked a much faster tempo for Part 2 compared to Animenz just to test my endurance playing those repeated notes.
0:00 Movie I: Presage Flower – Hana no Uta
2:52 Movie II: Lost Butterfly – I beg you
3:38 Most Difficult Part
5:01 Movie III: Spring Song – Haru wa Yuku
7:53 Best Part
As with all of my performances, I have my own interpretation, so the tempo, dynamics, etc may feel quite different from the original recording. Simply put, I play the way I like it.
