NieR Automata Medley, music by Keiichi Okabe, Keigo Hoashi, and Kuniyuki Takahashi, piano arranged by Animenz, played by Richard Yang on Yamaha N1X with Garritan CFX VST.
NieR Automata now joins Studio Ghibli as the two longest Animenz medleys that I recorded (both close to 15 minutes!). This was recorded on Day 5, and I went quite a bit faster, making things unnecessarily more challenging. A few more days would’ve helped. But I do not want to be stuck on recording something this long.
My video should be the first / only one on YouTube that’s based on Animenz’s official sheet. I stayed faithful to the notes and rhythm markings even though in Animenz’s performance there are quite a few differences (did he improvised the whole thing??!!). Another interesting thing to note, A Beautiful Song, on interpretation, mine is quite a bit “bigger”; this was influenced by Kyle Landry’s totally epic arrangement, which I really like and might cover one day if I ever find the proper sheet music.
0:00 City Ruins
2:55 Memories of Dust
5:49 Amusement Park
8:38 Vague Hope
11:36 A Beautiful Song
As with all of my performances, I have my own interpretation, so the tempo, dynamics, etc may feel quite different from the original recording. Simply put, I play the way I like it.
