Butter-fly, from Digimon Adventure, music by Hidenori Chiwata, piano arranged by Animenz, played by Richard Yang on Yamaha N1X with Garritan CFX VST.
This piece is featured on Animenz’s Steinway artist profile, which is how I discovered it. Animenz’s sheet music store at first wouldn’t allow me to purchase due to some country restriction (I’m from Canada). A long while later, out of the blue, I tried again by selecting a different country (Japan), and voila, it went through. So that’s how you can get this sheet music.
Although this piece is not overly difficult, there are quite a few risky spots such as the LH marcato octaves, and the piece is very difficult to count at first. Also, every time when I needed to restart the recording, I needed to go through a 2+ minute slow section, which was extremely frustrating. That frustration kinda explains why I went a bit faster with each retake. The final video almost became the “max” speed version, which is one of many disadvantages of not using the metronome.
0:00 Slow Part
2:14 Fast Part
4:34 Arpeggio
As with all of my performances, I have my own interpretation, so the tempo, dynamics, etc may feel quite different from the original recording. Simply put, I play the way I like it.
